LINEV Systems Prison Drug Detection
Swallowed drugs X-ray detecting systems for prisons

Prisons have become a lucrative source of income for criminal gangs, as they have managed to sell drugs (narcotics, heroin) and spice using miniature mobile phones. Inmates have been able to consume or smuggle in dangerous drugs undetected, as prison officers are not authorized to conduct body cavity searches. This has led to disruption and violence within prisons, with some inmates overdosing, resulting in guards having to call for medical attention.

The government has installed X-ray body scanner machines in all closed men’s prisons in England and Wales, and these machines have been put into use with impressive results. They have successfully thwarted over 40,000 attempts to smuggle harmful and life-threatening drugs, mobile phones, sim cards, and weapons since their installation.

The scanners have been incredibly effective in disrupting organized crime groups (OCGs) to the extent that dealers have reportedly offered a £10,000 reward to anyone who can cause enough damage to disable the equipment, as per reports from the governors.

Numerous inmates have been apprehended while attempting to enter the facility with narcotics, tobacco, and other illicit materials.

According to recent studies, at least 12,500 ambulances and paramedic cars were deployed to English jails between 2019 and 2020. During this time period, over 200 individuals lost their lives due to overdoses or stabbings. The most recent data shows that each ambulance call resulting in a patient being transported to the hospital cost NHS England an average of £292 in the 2019/20 fiscal year.

Notes. Since July 2020, 40,000 suspicious items were identified by new prison X-ray body scanners.

The method of X-ray automatic swallowed drugs detection

Swallowed Drugs Detection Software Interface

  • A technique for the automated identification of swallowed capsules in X-ray scanner images, the technique comprising.
  • Capturing an incoming image of an individual passing through the scanner.
  • Creating supplementary images through transformations of the original incoming image.
  • Producing extra images by applying transformations to the original incoming image.
  • Determining the location of the stomach and genital areas on the upper body region of the incoming image and the supplementary images.
  • Categorizing segmented regions of the stomach and genital area in the incoming image.
  • Computing geometrical and intensity characteristics, as well as rotationally invariant periodic features for windows located on the stomach and genital areas.
  • Identifying potential areas of interest on the stomach and genital regions.
  • Determining combined features for the attributes of the identified windows.
  • Employing a model for images without swallowed capsules to classify the incoming image using a dissimilarity function threshold.
  • Notifying the operator that the incoming image contains swallowed capsules if the dissimilarity function for the combined features of the incoming image is greater than or equal to the specified threshold.

DruGuard is the first and only available automatic detection software designed for Transmission X-ray Full Body Security Scanners, making it a unique solution in its category.

The DruGuard system detection capabilities are constantly being updated and improved. Our team of experts is always working to enhance the algorithm processing and image analysis to ensure that DruGuard remains at the forefront of narcotics detection technology. With each update, we strive to make DruGuard even more effective in detecting concealed narcotics, providing operators with the tools they need to locate and address potential threats. Our commitment to continuous improvement ensures that DruGuard is always evolving to meet the challenges of drug detection in today’s ever-changing environment.

In addition, the reporting features allow supervisors to track the performance of individual operators and identify any areas where additional training or improvement may be necessary. This feedback loop ensures that both the software and its operators are continuously adapting to new challenges in narcotics detection.

By continuously learning from operator inputs and monitoring performance, DruGuard can enhance its ability to detect suspicious images and improve overall effectiveness in narcotics detection. This collaborative approach between software and operators ultimately leads to a more efficient and reliable system for identifying potential threats.
