Prisons, correctional facilities and security checkpoints present security managers with a number of potential issues that can be overcome by using LINEV Systems^® Security X-ray Systems for full and partial body scanning. It is accepted all over the world that drugs, mobile phones and weapons are often smuggled in and that once inside controlling them is nearly impossible.

Contraband in correctional facilities includes illegal items, such as drugs, weapons or items prohibited in the area being monitored, such as cell phones and sim cards. Items could be hidden under the tongue, in the anal cavity, and if all else fails, in the stomach. Prison staff need to be able to detect and confiscate contraband quickly to prevent drug abuse, violence and the commission of further crimes.

Drug use even in maximum-security prisons is rife, with just under one in three prisoners saying it is easy to get drugs. Many prisoners also take drugs for the first time in prison. For instance, of those prisoners who have used heroin, one in five say that they started taking the drug inside prison. That is why it is necessary to install body scanners to identify drugs, guns, mobile phones, sim cards, and explosives being smuggled into prisons. The X-ray prison security body scanners can detect if people are smuggling prohibited items under clothing or inside body cavities. Very often prison X-ray mattresses scanners being used to inspect mattresses in order to find hidden prohibited objects.

Over 120 prison experts and prisoners found that it is easy for prisoners, visitors and corrupt officers to bring drugs or mobile phones into prison and that it has been like this for decades. Searches are proving ineffective at identifying smuggling – last year searches identified fewer than 100 visitors trying to bring drugs into prison.

Today, however, inmates can go now through an X-ray body scanners. Drugs and weapons pose a partial risk in prison and correctional facility environments. Inmates can use cell phones to help smuggle in drugs and weapons, organize attempts to escape, or order crimes to be committed inside or outside the prison.
